Governments are blocking proven medicine for anxiety & depression
Americans of all ages are dealing with a health crisis made worse by the built environment.
Social proof is an important part of any public engagement campaign, especially when you're crowdfunding. The following links are recent conversations I had with journalists and urbanists about creating happy, healthy communities.
1. Streetsblog
Kea Wilson is a writer motivating average Americans to get involved in making their cities better places. She’s also a novelist, cyclist, and affordable housing advocate.
The Brockovich-ian quest at the center of Boenau’s documentary is his own journey to unveil who’s behind America’s unhealthy infrastructure, and how their actions have inhibited the ability of public health professionals to keep the population well. [click here]
2. The Messy City Podcast
has done a fair amount of work as an urban designer, architect, planner, form-based coder, redeveloper and wanna-be musician. If you are someone that thinks at all about issues related to planning, street design and cities, AND cares about messaging, this is a must-listen. [click here]
3. Spokesmen Cycling Podcast
Carlton Reid is a journalist for Guardian, Daily Mail, Forbes, and more. If those outlets trust his knack for finding an important story, shouldn’t you? 😉
There’s a lot that can be done to improve mental health and physical health. But there’s something blocking and it’s not just a something, it’s an entire profession of very smart, well educated people. [click here]
4. Go Cultivate Podcast
Kevin Shepherd publishes a blog and podcast dedicated to helping community builders make improvements in themselves, their neighborhoods, and their cities.
“Plangineers” Andy Boenau and Kevin Shepherd discuss how their careers evolved from engineering to planning to advocates for change in their respective roles today. They discuss why radical changes to traditional planning and engineering approaches are needed in order to create more inclusive, sustainable, and thriving places. [click here]
Thing 1: As a reader of Urbanism Speakeasy, I think you’ll enjoy the content published by Kea Wilson, Kevin Klinkenberg, Carlton Reid, and Kevin Shepherd.
Thing 2: Would you share one or more of the links above with your network? I’m trying to get as much exposure for the documentary as possible in the month of June. You might add a simple personalized note like:
This filmmaker is making a documentary about how the government is blocking healthy infrastructure. I already made a pledge and thought you might be interested.
Feel free to use any of the JPGs below when you share info about the film. The pledge drive closes June 30, so we’ve got just over $7k to raise in two weeks.
