Jane Jacobs vs. Robert Moses is widely studied by urban planners, but there are tons of smaller scale stories that continue to this day. I recently watched "Battle for Brooklyn" about the proposed redevelopment project for an NBA team. https://youtu.be/k933qljUNP0

I moved to Brooklyn the year the Nets came to town. I remember seeing the borough change before my eyes for both good and bad. I worked across the street from the arena.

The area now has an Apple Store and a Whole Foods however last I checked the anti-displacement strategy that was proposed in order for this to go through has yet to be completed. I’ve been a Nets fan today due to proximity and the morale the city had during the season. I think Brooklyn created a “center” with this move which is good for any city. However, if you don’t uphold the exchange it makes the deal rotten. I think it’s okay if it benefits a majority AND those displaced get to also continue to benefit through proximity.

The Nets project is interesting because there were vocal locals on both sides. What seems to get lost is a person/group can love a project idea but not want to be forced out of their home. A bunch of those neighbors were fine with selling.
